Erode (Tamil Nadu):

On Monday, a senior officer of the district, helping a blind couple, gave him 25 thousand rupees from his personal savings. Due to being blind, the couple did not get to know that one thousand and five hundred notes in their savings were stopped four years ago. Official sources said that Somu (58) and his wife Palaniammal, who earned a livelihood by selling incense sticks, helped them by giving a thousand rupees more than what they had saved in more than ten years.

Sources said that two days after Somu appealed for help to the government, the District Magistrate, while playing the role of a good citizen, sent the vehicle to the office and handed over the check to the couple. He instructed to deposit the old notes of Rs 24,000 in the principal bank of the district.

Sources said that Somu and his wife thanked the officer for immediate help. Somu said that when he went to deposit his savings in the bank on Friday, he came to know that the notes of one thousand and five hundred were stopped in November 2016.
