Mumbai . Many more problems are being found in people after recovering from the infection due to Coronavirus In India. Recently many cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported. At the same time, some cases of avascular necrosis (AVN) i.e. bone death have been found. In avascular necrosis, the bones begin to melt. This happens because the blood does not reach the bone tissue properly. Meanwhile, at least three cases of avascular necrosis have been found in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra. Doctors fear that these cases may increase further in the next few days. Steroids are being cited as the main reason for cases of black fungus and cases of avascular necrosis. Let us tell you that steroids are used in many cases to cure Covid patients.

According to a report in the English newspaper Times of India, three patients under the age of 40 were treated at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai. These cases came to the fore after his recovery from Covid. Sanjay Aggarwal, Medical Director of Hinduja Hospital in Mahim said – He had pain in the femur bone (the highest part of the thigh bone). All three patients were doctors, so it was easy for them to recognize the symptoms, so they came immediately for treatment.

Are these cases due to corticosteroids?

Agarwal’s research paper ‘Avascular Necrosis A Part of Long Covid-19’ for the same disease was published in the medical journal ‘BMJ Case Studies’. In this, he said that due to ‘large-scale use of life-saving corticosteroids’ in Covid-19 cases, “AVN cases will increase.” According to the report, some other orthopedic specialists said that they too have seen one or two such cases in post-Covid patients.

A doctor from the Civil Hospital said, ‘The patients who are suffering from Covid-19 for a long time and they need steroids, it is a matter of concern.’ Dr Rahul Pandit, a member of the state government’s task force, said that he is keeping an eye on the cases of avascular necrosis. He said that ‘within a month or two I can come across such cases because AVN usually occurs after five to six months of steroid use. Steroids were heavily used in the month of April during the second wave of Covid. In such a situation, these cases can be found soon.
