Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is going to launch Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) as a pilot initiative.
State-owned telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is launching Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) as a pilot initiative. Special plans for women and students will also be launched soon. Other private companies already offer VoWi-Fi services, and now BSNL’s launch of this service will provide even more convenience to customers. Let’s take a closer look at BSNL’s plans and new features.
According to an ET Telecom report, BSNL President A. Robert Gerard Ravi stated that pilots for VoWi-Fi are underway in two zones. So far, its performance has been quite good in indoor and low-signal areas. The service will be available to customers soon, pending final approval. Customers with a 4G SIM can make calls over VoWi-Fi even if they don’t have a signal. However, being a BSNL customer is a must. Additionally, the company plans to launch a new plan for women and children soon, which is one of its primary goals. The company has also recently launched several offers, including the Freedom Plan for Rs. 1. This plan allows new customers to try the BSNL 4G network.
What is VoWi-Fi?
VoWi-Fi technology runs on the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) core and provides packet voice services using Wi-Fi as the access network. This means it can be used to make calls even when wireless coverage is poor. This technology allows users to make calls over the internet while their phone is connected to Wi-Fi. This allows users to make calls even in areas where there is no mobile signal.
You’ll be able to make calls even in poor network conditions.
As a pilot project, this service is currently available only to customers in select BSNL zones. Its compatibility has been tested on mobile phones that support Wi-Fi calling. This move will position the government company to compete with private sector companies already offering VoWi-Fi services, such as Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea. This new service will significantly benefit customers living indoors or in low-network areas. The launch of VoWi-Fi is expected to strengthen BSNL’s position, improve coverage, and enhance customer experience.
Special Plans for Students and Women
The telecom company is now focusing on students and farmers with promotional offers, including recharge offers and special discounts, to help expand its customer base. BSNL is also planning to launch special plans for women and students that offer increased talk time and validity. This plan is currently under development.
