CBSE 10th Exam: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the 10th class board examination twice a year from the academic year 2026-2027. It will also launch a global curriculum for 260 affiliated foreign schools. In an important meeting chaired by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Ministry of Education decided to launch the Global Curriculum. The Ministry of Education discussed the draft curriculum in detail with CBSE officials and the heads of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS). The draft is planned to be made public on Monday next week. Core Indian subjects will be integrated in the Global Curriculum.
CBSE said in a post on social media platform X, ‘Today Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a high-level meeting with Secretary, Directorate of Education, Secretary Economic Development, Ministry of External Affairs, heads of CBSE, NCERT, KVS, NVS and representatives of global schools. The modalities for bringing the CBSE Global Curriculum and implementing it were discussed in detail. CBSE was directed to introduce CBSE Global Curriculum for foreign schools from 2026-2027 and prepare a detailed action plan in this regard.’
Meanwhile, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted that a draft plan is being prepared to hold CBSE board exams twice a year. He wrote on Twitter, ‘Creating a stress-free learning environment for students has been an important focus of the government. Exam reform is an important step in this direction.’
According to the Times of India report, an official of the Ministry of Education said, ‘The aim of this initiative is to reduce the stress of one-time exam and provide an opportunity to improve their performance without any pressure. By introducing the system of multiple exams, CBSE is trying to create a more supportive learning environment that prioritizes conceptual understanding over rote learning.’
Earlier in January, Dharmendra Pradhan had said that the decision to conduct board examinations twice a year would be implemented from the next academic year 2026-27. Pradhan had also said that based on the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP), preparations are underway to implement the semester system in class 11th and class 12th.
Earlier, the Ministry of Education has clarified that it will not be mandatory for the students of class 10th and 12th to appear in the examination twice a year. This option is being introduced to reduce the stress caused by the fear of getting a chance only once. If a student is not satisfied with the score of the first time examination, then he can appear in the examination again next time. Only the best score of the students appearing in both the board examinations of the year will be taken. The merit of the result will be made on the basis of the best score.
In the NCF brought to implement the National Education Policy 2020, it was recommended that students should be allowed to take board exams twice in an academic year, in which only the best marks will be kept.
