CBSE Board Exam 2026: This year, several changes have been made to the CBSE 10th Board Exam (CBSE Board Exam 2026), including a new pattern for Social Science and Science. Now, a major update has been released for students. To improve the quality of re-evaluation for these two subjects, the Central Board of Secondary Education has divided the question paper into different sections. Candidates should be aware of this. New guidelines have been issued regarding this.

According to the notice, the Science paper will be divided into three sections: Sections A, B, and C. Section A will be Biology, Section B Chemistry, and Section C Physics. The Social Science question paper will be divided into four sections: Section A History, Section B Geography, Section C Political Science, and Section D Economics. For detailed information, CBSE has advised students to check the sample papers for both subjects, which are available on the official website https://www.cbse.gov.in/.

What was the pattern like before?

Previously, the Science paper was divided into five sections: Section A contained 16 MCQs and four inference-reasoning questions. Section B contained six short-answer questions, Section C seven short-answer questions, Section D three long-answer questions, and Section E three source/case/passage-based questions. The Social Science paper was divided into six sections: Section A contained MCQs, Section B two-mark very short-answer questions, Section C short-answer questions, Section D long-answer questions, Section E case-based questions, and Section F map-based questions. However, this pattern will no longer apply.

Candidates must follow these rules:

  • All students have been instructed to divide their answer books into three sections for Science and four sections for Social Science.
  • Answers will be written only in the space allotted for that section. It is not permitted to write answers for one section in another.
  • Answers that are mixed up will not be evaluated. No marks will be awarded.
  • Even after the results are declared, such errors will not be accepted in the verification or revaluation process.

Instructions issued to schools

The board has advised all schools to inform their students of this pattern. They have also been asked to prepare them for writing. Schools should ensure that students practice as much as possible to avoid mistakes while writing answers during the board exams. This rule will also apply to pre-board exams. The Class 10 Phase 1 exam will be held from February 17th to March 9th. The Social Science paper will be held on March 7th from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. The Science paper will be held on February 25th, 2026. Candidates will be given three hours for this paper.
