To promote ease of doing business in the country and decriminalize several provisions, the government is going to introduce the Corporate Affairs (Amendment) Bill, 2026 in Parliament on Monday. It aims to promote small businesses and startups.
The central government is going to introduce a bill to amend corporate laws in Parliament on Monday. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will introduce this amendment bill in the House. Its purpose is to advance the ease of doing business. The current law contains several criminal provisions that could be converted into penalties. Additionally, efforts could be made to ease the burden on small businesses, startups, and farmers.
This bill aims to amend the Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008, and the Companies Act. This Finance Bill has been listed on Monday’s agenda. The Cabinet approved the bill on March 10. Both laws have been amended previously. The Corporate Act has been amended four times since 2015, while the LLP Act was amended in 2021.
An official familiar with the matter stated that the amendment bill aims to decriminalize several provisions. It will also seek to benefit startups and manufacturing companies.
In addition, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to introduce the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026, in the Rajya Sabha. Its purpose is to amend the recruitment and service rules for Group A general duty officers and other officers in the armed police forces.
Demand for Withdrawal of Transgender Bill
Opposition MPs and third gender rights activists on Sunday demanded the government withdraw the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026. They say the proposed amendment could undermine the rights of the transgender community. The demand for withdrawal of the bill was made at a public hearing held at the Press Club of India here, where participants expressed concern about its potential impact on transgender people.
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar introduced the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha on March 13. The bill aims to provide a precise definition of the term “transgender.” It also provides for the exclusion of “diverse sexual orientations and self-perceived gender identities” from the scope of the proposed law. It underlines that a transgender person “does not, and has never, included persons with diverse sexual orientations and self-perceived gender identities.”
Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) spokesperson Anish Gawande said there is a clear demand for the bill to be withdrawn. “If the government is unwilling to withdraw it, it should be sent to the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment for reconsideration,” he said.
