Cyclone Ditwah: Heavy rain warning in these states from December 1 to 4, IMD alert issued

Cyclone Ditwah: The weather remains harsh due to Cyclone Ditwah. On November 30th, the storm weakened into a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent northern Tamil Nadu-Puducherry. As a result, heavy rains are continuing in some areas of northern coastal Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile, cold is expected to intensify in the coming days in many other areas, including North India. Cold waves may persist in several areas, including Punjab-Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

Rain Alert: The effects of Cyclone Ditwa are being felt in several states in South India. Heavy rainfall is ongoing. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that heavy rainfall may continue in various parts for the next four days. According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Yanam on December 1st and 2nd. Heavy rainfall is likely in Kerala and Mahe on December 3rd. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in northern coastal Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam on December 1st.

According to the India Meteorological Department,

From December 1st to 4th, scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected in Tamil Nadu, Kerala-Mahe, coastal Andhra Pradesh-Yanam, and Rayalaseema. Heavy rainfall is also possible in some areas.

On December 1st, strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are expected in Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema.

Weather Alert: Cyclone Ditwa has formed a deep depression.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the west-central Bay of Bengal, along the northern Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and southern Andhra Pradesh coasts, has been moving slowly northward at a speed of 3 kmph during the past six hours. It is currently centered about 50 km east of Chennai and 140 km northeast of Puducherry. It is very likely to continue moving slowly northward along the northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh coasts and maintain the intensity of a deep depression until evening.

Cold wave in several states, including North India

While heavy rains continue in South India, cold weather continues in many other parts of North India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a cold wave in Punjab and Haryana, some areas of Chandigarh and Delhi from December 2 to 6, northern Madhya Maharashtra from December 2 and 3, and northern Rajasthan from December 4 to 6.

Minimum Temperature Forecast

  • According to the IMD, minimum temperatures in northwest India are expected to gradually decline by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next four days, with no significant change thereafter.
  • Minimum temperatures in central India are expected to remain unchanged during the next 48 hours, with a further decline of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next three days, with no significant change thereafter.
  • Minimum temperatures in eastern India are expected to remain unchanged during the next 24 hours, with a further decline of 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next four days, with no significant change thereafter.
