Cyclone Senyar: Cyclone Senyar will make landfall in a few hours, heavy rain in these states, IMD warns

Cyclone Senyar Tracker Landfall: The deep depression over the Strait of Malacca has intensified into Cyclone Senyar. According to the IMD, its effects will be seen in the form of heavy rainfall in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh.

Cyclone Senyar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a major update late Tuesday night, stating that the deep depression over the Strait of Malacca has now intensified into Cyclonic Storm Senyar. The storm is expected to make landfall on the Indonesian coast by Wednesday afternoon (November 26, 2025). According to the IMD, the system has intensified into a storm over the past six hours, moving westward at a speed of approximately 10 kilometers per hour. This has caused a sudden change in weather patterns not only in Southeast Asia but also in India’s coastal regions.

The Strait of Malacca connects the Andaman Sea to the South China Sea, so any storm forming there impacts India’s eastern coast. According to the IMD, the storm will maintain its intensity for the next 24 hours and then move west-southwestward, likely turning eastward after 48 hours. Wind speeds are expected to reach 70–90 kilometers per hour on Wednesday.

Heavy Rain Alert in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The first impact of the cyclone will be felt in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The IMD stated in its national bulletin that heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur at many places on November 26 and 27. Rainfall will decrease on November 28-29, but strong sea breezes are likely. Fishermen in the Andaman region have been advised not to venture into the sea.

Another system also active in the Bay of Bengal

In addition to the storm in the Malacca Strait, a distinct low-pressure area has formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal. According to the IMD, this system may intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours. As it moves north-northwest, heavy rainfall is expected in several districts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala. Heavy rains have already begun in many areas of Tamil Nadu since Monday, with several parts of Tuticorin district submerged.

Schools and colleges closed in Tamil Nadu

Schools and colleges were closed in several districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday due to heavy rains and waterlogging, but no official announcement has yet been made regarding the closure on Wednesday. The International Monetary Fund (IMD) has warned that heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are likely to continue in Tamil Nadu between November 26 and 29. Therefore, institutions in several districts are likely to be closed again, but this will be confirmed by local administrations.

Heavy rains in Kerala and Mahe on November 26 and 27

The weather is also rapidly changing in Kerala. The IMD predicts heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and high seas on Wednesday and Thursday. People living in coastal areas have been advised to take necessary precautions.
