Central and state governments also announce salary and DA increases from time to time. Recently, the central government announced an increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for central employees, and the Dearness Allowance (DA) for central employees has also come into effect. Following the central government’s decision, some state governments have also announced an increase in their dearness allowance. Now, another state in South India has followed suit. On Thursday, the Tamil Nadu government announced a 3% increase in dearness allowance for government employees and pensioners.
How much is the dearness allowance now?
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced an increase in the dearness allowance for government employees and teachers. Their dearness allowance has been increased from 55% to 58%. With this, the dearness allowance for Tamil Nadu government employees has become equal to that of central government employees.
Approximately 1.6 million government employees, teachers, and pensioners in Tamil Nadu will benefit from this. It was reported that the increase in dearness allowance will result in an additional burden of ₹1,829 crore on the government treasury.
Previously, dearness allowances were also increased for government employees in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha.
