On Thursday, the Tamil Nadu government announced a 3% increase in dearness allowance for government employees and pensioners.

With this, the dearness allowance for Tamil Nadu government employees has become equal to that of central government employees.
Approximately 1.6 million government employees, teachers, and pensioners in Tamil Nadu will benefit from this. It was reported that the increase in dearness allowance will result in an additional burden of ₹1,829 crore on the government treasury.
Previously, dearness allowances were also increased for government employees in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha.
