DA Hike: Before Diwali, the central government may provide significant relief to its employees and pensioners. Dearness Allowance (DA) could rise to 58% next month. A 3% increase in dearness allowance (DA) is expected for the July-December 2025 period. If this happens, the current 55% DA will increase to 58%. This will directly impact the salaries and pensions of millions of people.
DA Revisions Happen Twice a Year
The DA for central employees and pensioners is increased twice a year. Separate revisions are made for the January-June and July-December periods. For example, in March 2025, the government increased the DA by 2% for the January-June period, taking it from 53% to 55%. Now, it is the turn of the July-December 2025 period, which could see a 3% hike.
What will be the impact on salary and pension?
DA is always decided on the basis of basic salary, so its impact is different for everyone. Suppose a pensioner gets a basic pension of Rs 9,000. Currently, according to 55% DA, he gets Rs 4,950, that is, the total pension becomes Rs 13,950. But if DA becomes 58%, then he will get Rs 5,220 and the pension will become Rs 14,220. That is, there will be a benefit of Rs 270.
The minimum salary of an employee is Rs 18,000. At the current 55% DA, he gets Rs 9,900 and the total salary becomes Rs 27,900. But at 58% DA, it will increase to Rs 10,440 and the total salary will be Rs 28,440. That is, there will be a direct benefit of Rs 540 every month.
How is DA determined?
There is a fixed formula for calculating DA, which is based on the CPI-IW (Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers). Dearness allowance is determined based on this data.
When will the announcement be made?
Although the government has not yet made any official announcement, considering the trend in previous years, news of DA hikes comes after Navratri and before Diwali. This time too, employees and pensioners are expected to receive the gift of a 3% DA hike before the festival. This means that if this announcement is made, this Diwali, central government employees and pensioners will have a little more money in their pockets, and the joy of the festival will be doubled.
