Holiday News: The Maharashtra government has announced a paid holiday for employees in both the government and private sectors.
Declared Holiday: The Maharashtra government has taken a significant decision regarding the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections. The state government has declared February 7th a paid holiday for employees working in industries, private companies, and commercial establishments. This is intended to ensure that no eligible voter is excluded from voting.
The government order clearly states that voting is a democratic duty for all registered voters aged 18 and above, and it is mandatory to provide employees with the opportunity to exercise this right on polling day. The order also acknowledges that despite prior legal provisions, some institutions did not provide leave, preventing many employees from exercising their right to vote.
Voting for 12 Zilla Parishads and 125 Panchayat Samitis in Maharashtra will be held on February 7th, with the counting of votes taking place on February 9th. The government has directed that employees whose names are on the voter list for the respective constituency be granted paid leave on polling day, even if they are working outside that area.
The government’s strict order will apply to these sectors.
This order issued by the Maharashtra Department of Industry, Energy, and Labor is not limited to government offices, but will also apply to all private sector institutions. As per the government’s directive, all private companies, factories, IT parks, and business units in the state are required to declare a holiday on February 7th. Additionally, all commercial establishments such as shopping malls, retail outlets, showrooms, hotels, restaurants, and theaters are also covered by this order.
The order clearly states that it is the responsibility of every employer to provide paid leave to employees working in these sectors to ensure their right to vote. This decision has been taken to ensure maximum voter turnout in the local body elections. This order will also apply to employees who are voters in the constituency, even if their company is located outside the electoral area.
Impact on Schools and Colleges
The elections on February 7th will also impact educational institutions. In fact, most school and college buildings are used as polling stations. Furthermore, thousands of teachers and employees of the Education Department have been deployed to conduct the election process.
Due to the presence of polling stations in educational institutions and staff shortages, schools and colleges will also be closed on February 7th. Final orders in this regard will be issued by the respective educational institutions.
