The journey from Delhi to Dehradun will no longer be the same; instead, it is set to become significantly easier and faster. The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway—which has been long awaited—is now nearing its launch. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate this expressway on April 14. Sharing this information on Friday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the expressway to the public during a grand ceremony in Dehradun. The announcement has sparked an atmosphere of jubilation among the people of Uttarakhand and the Delhi-NCR region, as the commencement of this expressway will make their commute considerably smoother and allow them to complete their journeys in much less time.

Grand Opening of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway

The Uttarakhand government is currently immersed in preparations for this event. Meanwhile, in the national capital, Delhi, work is proceeding rapidly on roadside painting, street light repairs, and the maintenance of surveillance cameras. Spanning approximately 213 kilometers, this expressway will commence at Akshardham in Delhi and extend to Dehradun, passing through Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli, and Saharanpur. Once operational, the journey from Delhi to Dehradun—which currently takes 5 to 6 hours—will be reduced to a mere 2.5 to 3 hours. A maximum speed limit of 100 km/h has been designated for cars on this expressway, ensuring that the journey is both faster and safer.

Asia’s Largest Wildlife Corridor

The most remarkable feature of this expressway is its engineering. It incorporates a 12-kilometer-long elevated wildlife corridor that passes over the Rajaji National Park. This is the largest such corridor in Asia, designed with the specific objective of ensuring wildlife safety. Beneath this structure, animals will be able to roam freely and without fear within the forest, while vehicles speed along at high velocities above. It stands as an excellent example of the balance between environmental conservation and development.

Toll Taxes and Amenities

To ensure a comfortable journey, 16 entry and exit points have been established along the entire route. At intervals of every 25–30 kilometers, the expressway offers state-of-the-art restaurants, parking facilities, and various roadside amenities. Regarding toll payments made via FASTag, it is estimated that the one-way toll charge for the journey from Delhi to Dehradun will be approximately ₹500.
