Delhi Metro Free Ride: The tune of “Jana Gana Mana…”, the tricolor in hands and the spirit of patriotism in the heart… Independence Day is a very special day for every Indian. And if you want to celebrate this special day by attending the main function at the Red Fort in the capital Delhi, then Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has made a very big and wonderful arrangement for you.
DMRC has announced that on 15th August, Independence Day, metro services will start at 4 am instead of 6 am like normal days! This decision has been taken for the convenience of thousands of people who want to be a part of the flag hoisting ceremony at the Red Fort.
What is the new time-table of the metro?
On 15th August, train services on all lines of Delhi Metro (Red, Yellow, Blue, Magenta etc.) will start at 4:00 am. From 4:00 am to 6:00 am, trains on all lines will run at an interval of 30 minutes. After 6:00 am, the metro will continue to run as per its normal and regular time-table throughout the day.
Travel will be absolutely FREE for these people!
DMRC has also given the gift of free travel to some people on this special day. This includes all those special guests and invitees who have a valid invitation card issued by the Ministry of Defense. These special guests will be provided a ticket with a special QR code by DMRC. Through this ticket, they will be able to travel in the metro for free. The metro fare of these passengers will be paid to DMRC by the Ministry of Defense.

‘Seven’ rounds of security! Know this important thing before traveling in the metro
In view of Independence Day, the security system in Delhi Metro has been made impenetrable. CISF has tightened the security check even more, which may affect your journey. From August 9, security checks have been made more stringent and intensive at all metro stations. Due to this strict checking, especially during peak hours in the morning and evening, there may be long queues at the entry gates of metro stations.
DMRC has appealed to all passengers to take some extra time while planning their journey. If you have to reach office or for some important work at 9 o’clock, then leave home 15-20 minutes earlier. Passengers have been requested to fully cooperate with the security personnel during the checking. This is for the safety of you and all of us.
There will be restrictions on the road as well, advisory of traffic police
Not just the metro, special arrangements have been made on the roads of Delhi for August 15. Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory for the Independence Day dress rehearsal (August 13) and the main function (August 15). Many routes in and around the Red Fort will be closed for general traffic or will be diverted. The traffic police has advised people to avoid coming on these roads on these special days and use alternative routes. Before starting your journey, do check the official ‘X’ handle of Delhi Traffic Police.
Conclusion
The celebration of Independence Day is a celebration of the whole country, and Delhi Metro is playing an important role in it. Starting services from 4 am and providing free travel to special guests is a commendable step, which shows that every agency is contributing to make the national festivals a success. As a responsible citizen, it is also our duty to respect these arrangements. If you are travelling by metro till 15th August, take some extra time, cooperate with the security check and join the celebration of this national festival with pride.
