Delhi currently has the largest metro network. This new project will further expand the network. Once completed, many new areas will be added to the metro network.
There’s good news for Delhiites. The metro network in Delhi is set to expand even further in the coming days. The Delhi Metro Phase 5 project has been approved by the government. Three new corridors will be built under this project, estimated to cost approximately ₹12,014 crore. The government has also released complete details of the three new corridors under Phase 5. The project is targeted to be completed by 2028. All approved corridors will be developed as extensions of existing metro lines. Their primary objective is to make connectivity in the capital’s major and densely populated areas more accessible, faster, and efficient, providing improved transportation services to commuters.
The three corridors that have been approved
| Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha | 9.9 kilometers |
| Aerocity to IGI Terminal 1 | 2.2 kilometers |
| Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj | 3.9 kilometers |
The Magenta Line will become the Delhi Metro’s longest corridor.
The Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line (Line 8) is set to become the network’s longest line after expansion. With the most interchanges and underground stations, this corridor will make commuting in the National Capital Region more seamless and efficient. The recently approved Phase V (A) will extend the Magenta Line from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha (via Central Vista). Additionally, the Indraprastha-Inderlok corridor of Phase IV will also be part of this line. After these two extensions, the Magenta Line will have a total length of approximately 89 kilometers from Botanical Garden to Indralok, making it the Delhi Metro’s longest corridor. Upon completion, the line will be fully driverless.
Connectivity will increase with 21 interchange stations.
After the expansion, there will be a total of 21 interchange stations on this line. Currently, its operational section has four interchange stations – Kalkaji Mandir, Botanical Garden, Janakpuri West and Hauz Khas. Under Phase-IV and Phase-V (A), 17 new interchange stations will be added, including Kalindi Kunj, Chirag Delhi, Terminal-1 IGI Airport, Peeragarhi, Pitampura (Madhuban Chowk), Haiderpur Badli Mor, Majlis Park, Azadpur, Pulbangash, Nabi Karim, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, Indraprastha, Delhi Gate, New Delhi and Indralok.
