Heavy rain on Tuesday slowed traffic in many parts of Delhi, causing long traffic jams at various places and causing inconvenience to commuters. Waterlogging on major roads led to congestion at several places.
Delhi residents took to the social media platform X to report the situation and appeal for immediate intervention from traffic authorities. One user tagged the Delhi Traffic Police and wrote, “There is a massive traffic jam on the Dwarka Expressway from Bamnoli and Chhawla. Please take immediate action.”
Another commuter complained of severe traffic jams near the Sadar Metro station on Dwarka Road, urging Delhi Cantt officials to “take necessary action.” In East Delhi, residents complained of severe waterlogging and traffic jams in Patparganj.
One person wrote on ‘X’, “There is massive traffic jam in Patparganj due to heavy waterlogging near Retreat Apartments.”
According to traffic police officials, continuous rain and waterlogging in low-lying areas disrupted traffic on several roads. Long queues of vehicles were seen on Arya Samaj Road in Patparganj, Bada Tooti Chowk in Sadar Bazaar, Old Rohtak Road, Shadipur Metro Station, and several other roads.
Commuters heading to the airport also faced congestion, with heavy traffic seen from Connaught Place to Dhaula Kuan. Similar conditions prevailed at Roshnara Road and the Azad Market Chowk red light, where vehicles were moving at a very slow pace.
Due to intermittent rain throughout the day, the traffic police deployed additional personnel at major crowded areas to regulate traffic.
Meanwhile, commuters shared photos and updates of the rain-induced traffic jams on social media, urging authorities to improve the drainage system and make traffic management effective.
According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the city’s air quality was recorded in the “satisfactory” category at 4 pm and the Air Quality Index (AQI) was 73.
