Due to continuous improvement in the air quality in Delhi-NCR, CAQM has ended the first phase of GRAP with immediate effect. On March 16, the average AQI of Delhi was recorded at 119 which is in the moderate category. This improvement has been seen due to favorable weather. However, CAQM has directed the concerned agencies to remain alert and ensure strict compliance of pollution control rules so that the air quality does not deteriorate again. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain again in Delhi-NCR a day later i.e. on March 18.
Rain on March 18, 19, and 20
The weather in Delhi is expected to change. This could lead to a slight drop in temperatures. It will be partly cloudy on Tuesday. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 32 to 34 degrees Celsius, and the minimum around 14 to 16 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will change in Delhi and the NCR from Wednesday, March 18. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be rain in Delhi and the NCR on March 18, 19, and 20, with strong winds throughout.
Alert for Rain and Strong Winds on March 18
According to the Meteorological Department, there will be cloudy weather in Delhi and the NCR on Wednesday, March 18. Light rain or showers accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds are likely in the evening or night. Wind speeds during the rain are expected to be 20 to 30 kilometers per hour. Wind speeds can reach up to 40 kilometers per hour at night. This may be accompanied by very light rain or drizzle.
Rain and Strong Winds Expected on March 19
The weather in Delhi-NCR will remain poor on Thursday, March 19th. It will remain cloudy. Very light rain or drizzle accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in the morning. Strong winds are expected to blow at speeds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour, sometimes reaching 40 kilometers per hour.
Yellow Alert on March 20th
Cloudy weather in Delhi will remain cloudy on Friday, March 20th. A yellow alert has been issued for light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds in the morning. Wind speeds during this period are expected to be 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, sometimes reaching 50 kilometers per hour. Very light rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected again on Friday afternoon and evening. Strong winds are expected to blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.
Weather will change due to Western Disturbance
According to meteorologists, this change is being caused by a Western Disturbance, which is creating cloudy, rainy, and thunderstorm-like conditions in North India. Recently, thunderstorms and light rain were recorded in Delhi-NCR, providing some relief from the sweltering heat. The Meteorological Department predicts that after March 21st, temperatures will gradually rise again, and the sky will remain partially clear.
Significant improvement in air quality after five months
On Monday, Delhi-NCR’s air quality saw a significant improvement after five months. Following the improvement, the CAQM decided to immediately end the first phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the National Capital Region. This decision was taken at a meeting of the GRAP subcommittee on Monday. On Monday, March 16, Delhi’s average air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 119, which falls in the ‘moderate’ category. A day earlier, on March 15, Delhi’s average AQI was 175.
GRAP Phase 1 restrictions lifted
Grape’s first phase restrictions were lifted after the GRAP subcommittee reviewed the current situation, noting continued improvement, and decided to lift the first phase of GRAP. However, the Commission for Air Quality Management has directed all state governments in the NCR, the Delhi government, and relevant agencies to remain vigilant. The Commission has urged strict adherence to all pollution-related regulations to prevent air quality deterioration. It should be noted that the first phase of GRAP was implemented in Delhi NCR five months ago, on October 14, 2025.
