The Ministry of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued new guidelines to curb these extra fees. According to the new DGCA guidelines, at least 60 percent of the seats on any flight must be available for passengers to choose without any additional fees.

The aim is to make air travel affordable and transparent for the general public, so that passengers don’t face the financial burden of seat selection.
Often, family members booked on the same PNR are assigned separate seats. The new guidelines address this. Passengers traveling on the same PNR will now be assigned adjacent or adjacent seats based on priority.
New Rules for Sports Equipment and Musical Instruments
