Digital Life Certificate: The EPFO has taken a revolutionary step for EPS pensioners. Pensioners will no longer have to visit banks or EPFO offices. In collaboration with India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), a free doorstep Digital Life Certificate (DLC) service has been launched. This facility will prove to be a boon, especially for senior citizens and pensioners in rural areas who are unable to use smartphones.

How will the service work?

A postman or postal servant will arrive directly at the pensioner’s home. First, they will match the details of the Pension Payment Order (PPO) and Aadhaar. Then, they will generate the DLC using Face Authentication Technology (FAT). If face authentication fails, they will use biometric fingerprints. If successful, the pensioner will receive an SMS, and the DLC will be available on the Jeevan Pramaan portal. This entire process is free, as the expenses are borne by the EPFO. If desired, pensioners can call IPPB Customer Care (033-22029000) and request a home visit.

Long-pending cases will be prioritized.

EPFO has issued instructions that DLC cases pending for more than 5 years should be resolved first. After that, cases 2-5 years old will be examined. The goal is to clear all pending cases by March 2026. If the postman learns of the death of a pensioner, they will immediately report it. This will enable the next beneficiary to receive the pension or the PPO to be closed. Zonal offices have been asked to monitor the progress.

Promoting Self-Reliance

EPFO has advised pensioners with smartphones to generate their own DLC using the Jeevan Pramaan or Umang app. Those who find it difficult can avail of this free service. This scheme, which has been in operation since 2020, is now free. This will provide convenience to millions of pensioners and will eliminate any disruption in their pensions. This initiative by EPFO is strengthening Digital India and reducing the worries of the elderly.

The EPFO states that this initiative will not only provide relief to the elderly but will also help achieve the goal of resolving long-pending DLC cases by March 2026. To avail this service, pensioners must book a slot through the IPPB mobile app or toll-free number. Postmen will then arrive at their homes at the scheduled time and generate a digital life certificate through Aadhaar-biometric verification.

Experts believe this initiative represents a major step towards ease of living for pensioners. It will not only reduce the hassles of the elderly but also increase their trust in digital services. This joint initiative by the EPFO and IPPB is a humane and convenient solution for pensioners, helping them continue receiving their pensions in a dignified manner.
