Better Traffic Management: The government is going to make changes to toll and traffic rules to improve traffic management. Some of these rules will come into effect from February 1st.
What are the new rules?
While these new rules have been tightened, they will also provide relief to FASTag users. So let’s see what these new rules are.
Relief for FASTag Users
First, let’s talk about relief. The National Highway Authority of India has stated that all new FASTags issued on or after February 1st, 2026, will not require KYV.
No need for KVY
The authority stated that it has decided to discontinue the ‘Know Your Vehicle’ (KYV) process for newly issued vehicles (cars, jeeps, vans) with FASTags.
But the secret is hidden.
However, KYV has not been completely abolished. It will only be applicable in special circumstances, such as if the FASTag is found on an incorrect vehicle or the tag is not properly installed.
Strictness on Toll Dues
The government is going to be strict on toll dues. If toll money is stuck in the system, not deducted, or remains outstanding, it will be recorded in the government records of your vehicle.
No NOC (Non-Objection Certificate)
If the toll amount remains outstanding, the vehicle owner will not receive a Non-Objection Certificate (NOC).
This will cause problems
If you do not receive a NOC, you will not be able to sell your vehicle. You will also not be able to register the vehicle in another state.
No Permit for Trucks
Not only this, if there is a toll due, the vehicle’s fitness certificate may be rejected. And trucks will not receive a national permit.
Changes in Form 28
Form 28, used for NOC, has also been updated. Now, the vehicle owner will have to personally declare in this form that there are no toll dues on their vehicle.
Strictness on Traffic Violations
In addition to the toll system, traffic rules have also been tightened. Now, repeatedly breaking traffic rules will not only result in a fine, but your driving license may also be suspended.
DL will be suspended
According to the Ministry’s recent notification, if a driver violates traffic rules five or more times in a year, their driving license can be suspended.
They will have the authority
The Regional Transport Office (RTO) and District Transport Office (DTO) will have the authority to suspend driving licenses.
