According to Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration and global earthquake monitoring agencies, two tremors of varying intensity were recorded on the island. According to Reuters, the first tremor was of magnitude 5.7, shaking buildings in the surrounding areas, including the capital, Taipei.
Tremors felt more strongly due to shallow depth

A Fresh Memory of the Massive Earthquake of April 2024
It is worth noting that Taiwan was previously struck by a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake in April 2024, the strongest in the past 25 years. That earthquake killed at least 17 people and caused massive landslides and extensive damage to buildings in the Hualien area.
The most devastating earthquake since 1999
The April 2024 earthquake was considered the most severe to hit Taiwan since the 7.6 magnitude earthquake of 1999. The 1999 earthquake proved to be the deadliest natural disaster in the island’s history, causing massive loss of life and property.
