The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has provided subscribers access to 16 different services on the UMANG app to make it easier for pensioners to passbook check process and facilitate updating of life certificates from the mobile phone itself. That is, now pensioners can check their passbook and update their life certificate through the Umang app. For its 66 lakh pensioners, EPFO has brought ‘View Pensioner Passbook’ and ‘Updation of Jeevan Pramaan Patra’ facility on the Umang app.
In order to take advantage of these services, the pensioner has to keep his UAN and mobile number registered with EPFO active. Please tell here that 90 percent users on Umang App come for services related to EPFO. This app can be applied for claim, track claim and its status can be known. The most popular service among users on the Umang app is ‘View Member Passbook’.
EPFO states, “With increasing penetration of smart phones in India, EPFO has been able to extend the reach of its services to its members through mobile governance, thereby boosting the digital divide.”
According to EPFO data, a total of 11.27 lakh claim applications have been filled online through the Umang app during the April 2020 to July 2020 corona virus epidemic. The period before the corona virus epidemic is a jump of 180 percent from December 2019 to March 2020. During that period only 3.97 lakh claim applications were received through Umang app.
During the period April to July 2020, 18.52 lakh API hits were received for the View Pensioner Passbook service, while 29,773 API hits were received for the updating Jeevan Pramaan Patra service.
