The EPFO has allowed some employees to settle claims without physical Aadhaar. However, an Aadhaar card is required to obtain an EPA. Let’s find out which employees have been exempted by the EPFO.
EPFO New Guidelines: Although Aadhaar card is required for PF claims, recently EPFO has introduced new rules related to Aadhaar, under which some individuals will be able to have their physical claims approved without Aadhaar linking, meaning they will receive their PF funds. Let’s find out who will be exempted according to the new EPFO guidelines.
These employees will be exempted
According to EPFO rules, any employee who wants to settle a PF claim, i.e., withdraw money from PF, must have their Universal Account Number (UAN) linked to their Aadhaar number. However, EPFO has exempted some employees within this rule, allowing them to withdraw PF funds without Aadhaar.
1. Employees who have completed all their PF-related assignments and have moved abroad will be exempt.
2. Additionally, those who have left India and acquired citizenship abroad will also be exempt. They can also settle their claims without Aadhaar.
People from Nepal and Bhutan will also receive exemptions.
The EPFO has stated that individuals from Nepal and Bhutan working in an Indian company that offers EPF benefits will also be able to receive physical claims without an Aadhaar card. However, a citizenship certificate will be required for final redemption. Without this, the full amount will not be disbursed.
UNI must be generated – EPFO
The EPFO has issued dues guidelines for employees from Nepal and Bhutan, detailing how they will receive the funds. It states that PAN and bank accounts should be checked to verify eligibility. The EPFO also underlined in its circular that due diligence should be exercised in these matters, and verification details should be duly recorded. Furthermore, if the amount exceeds ₹5 lakh, information can be obtained from the company, and the money will be transferred via NEFT. Furthermore, the EPFO stated that those who do not have UNI should be exempted from these guidelines. They will be required to generate a UAN, as the requirement to link the UAN with Aadhaar has been removed, not the UAN.
