EXCLUSIVE: AC travel in train will be cheaper, AC3 economy fare will be 8 percent less than AC3

Now Indian Railways is installing economy AC 3-tier coaches to facilitate people to travel in AC at cheap rate.

New Delhi. Now people will get the facility to travel in AC train at cheap rate. Actually, the travel in AC3 Economy Class coaches will be cheaper as compared to the normal AC3 Tier coaches. Indian Railways has fixed the fare for the new AC-3 economy class. According to sources, its fare will be about 8 percent less than the fare of AC-3 class.

AC3 economy coaches will also be installed in Garib Rath trains

Some special facilities have been kept in AC3 economy class coaches. Railways is going to put such coaches in trains. For this, sleeper class coaches will be reduced from trains. In future, only AC-3 economy coaches will be used in Garib Rath trains. Its purpose is to give the sleeper class passengers a chance to travel in AC class at a low fare.

At present, 50 coaches of AC3 economy class have been prepared at Kapurthala Rail Coach Factory. These coaches have been sent to different railway zones across the country. Right now a plan is being prepared to put them in different trains. Railways is going to prepare 800 coaches of AC-3 economy this year. Of these, 300 coaches will be manufactured at Integral Coach Factory Chennai, 285 coaches at Modern Coach Factory Rae Bareli and 177 at Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala.

AC3 tier economy class has 83 berths.

There are 83 berths in AC 3 Tier Economy Class. For this, instead of 2, 3 berths have been kept on the side. Whereas AC3 has 72 berths. That is, there are about 15 percent more berths in AC-3 economy class than in AC3. This means that the railways is going to benefit more than the AC-3 economy class coaches.

Garib Rath trains with 3 berths on the side were started even in the era of former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. However, the fare of Garib Rath was kept 15 percent less than the fare of AC3. In Railways, 26 Garib Rath trains still run in Up-Down. That is, a total of 52 Garib Rath trains are still in service. Railways have 25 rakes for these trains. Railways plan to remove these rakes one by one and replace them with AC-3 economy coaches. If the fare of AC-3 economy is implemented in those trains as well, then in the coming time the fare of Garib Rath trains may increase by about 10 percent.

Railways benefit from AC3 class only

According to sources, the railways benefit from only AC3 class. Generally, the railways get 7 percent benefit from AC3 class. There is a loss of 64 percent on sub urban trains while 40 percent loss on the coaches of non-sub urban trains. At the same time, there is a loss of about 24 percent on AC 1, about 27 percent loss on AC 2, about 34 percent loss from sleeper class and about 16 percent from chair car. That is, railways benefit only in carrying passengers of AC 3 class, so increasing the AC-3 coach will reduce its loss.
