Facebook will have to appear before the committee of Delhi Assembly, refuses to cancel the summons of the Supreme Court

The court has made it clear that law and order does not come under the jurisdiction of the Delhi Assembly. Therefore, Ajit Mohan can refuse to answer the questions related to it.

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to quash the summons issued by a committee of the Delhi Legislative Assembly to Ajit Mohan, Vice President of Facebook India. The Assembly’s ‘Peace and Harmony’ committee had issued summons to Facebook for its failure to curb inflammatory content during the Delhi violence.

However, the court has clarified that law and order does not come under the jurisdiction of the Delhi Assembly. Therefore, Ajit Mohan can refuse to answer the questions related to it.

It is worth noting that Facebook Vice President Ajit Mohan had challenged the summons sent by the committee of Delhi Assembly in the Supreme Court. In February, the Supreme Court had reserved its decision on Ajit Mohan’s petition. In February 2020, the Delhi Government’s Peace and Harmony Committee had summoned to investigate what was the role of Facebook in the riots in East Delhi.

After this, Ajit Mohan moved the Supreme Court and filed a petition there. This committee had issued notice to Ajit Mohan for not appearing as a witness in the cases related to Delhi riots.
