Life Certificate is a biometrically enabled digital life certificate for pensioners. It is extremely important for retired employees of the Central Government, State Government, and other government institutions.
New Family Pension Rules: This is important news for central government employees and pensioners. The Modi government has issued a clarification for family pensioners. It states that if a government employee dies and their parents are receiving a pension, both will be required to submit a life certificate every year to prevent irregularities. If they fail to submit a life certificate every year, they will not receive the increased pension rate. This order has been issued by the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW). Let’s understand it in detail…
Family Pension: Both parents will be required to submit a life certificate.
According to a clarification from the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (DoPPW), if a government employee dies unmarried or widowed/widowed without children, their parents will receive a dependent pension. If both parents are alive, the pension will be 75% of their last salary. If only one parent is alive, the pension will be 60%. Additionally, both parents will now be required to submit their personal life certificates in November each year.
If one parent passes away, only the surviving parent’s certificate will be submitted the following year, and the pension will automatically be reduced to 60%. It should be noted that this pension is available even if the parents have their own source of income.
Until now, there was no provision in the rules requiring both parents to submit life certificates, but this has now been made mandatory.
If for any reason the life certificate is not submitted by November 30, pension payments will be stopped from December. After submitting the certificate, your pension will resume, but the amount for the paused period will not be refunded.
Why is a life certificate necessary?
The Jeevan Pramaan Patra (Life Certificate) is a biometrically enabled digital life certificate for pensioners. It is crucial for retired employees of the Central Government, State Governments, and other government institutions. It establishes whether the pensioner is alive or not. As per the rules, every pensioner between the ages of 60 and 80 is required to submit their Life Certificate between November 1st and 30th. Super senior pensioners above 80 years of age are required to submit the certificate between October 1st and November 30th.
Pensioners can submit the certificate digitally through the Jeevan Pramaan app. This requires Aadhaar authentication and face scanning. Additionally, the certificate can also be submitted through banks, post offices, or doorstep services for senior citizens.
