NPCI has clarified about the changes in the Fastag rules and said that the new rules will not affect people. NHAI said that the purpose of the new circular is to resolve the Fastag status dispute between banks at toll plazas and improve real-time payment.
FasTag Rule Change: National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has given clarification regarding the change in Fastag rules. Let us tell you that some time ago a report claimed that under the new rules, double tax will have to be paid for passing through the toll plaza if the balance is low or the Fastag is blacklisted. However, NPCI has clarified that the new rules will not affect the users.
There will be no impact on Fastag customers
NHAI has clarified that the purpose of the new circular is to resolve the dispute between banks regarding FASTag status when the vehicle passes through the toll plaza. The new circular also ensures that FASTag transactions are done on time, so that people do not face any kind of problem. NPCI says that the new Fastag rules will improve real-time payment.
Earlier it was claimed that there would be a 70-minute window
Earlier it was reported that if the FASTag gets blacklisted on reaching a toll, then the user will have to pay double the toll. But if the user recharges his FASTag within 10 minutes of the FASTag being scanned, then the penalty will be waived. After receiving the low-balance alert, the user will be given a grace period of 70 minutes to recharge his FASTag, so that he can avoid the penalty before reaching the toll booth.
#NHAI has issued a clarification regarding the recent #FASTag rule change.

Advice to customers for auto payment
NHAI has advised people to set auto recharge by linking UPI and bank account to Fastag wallet, so that people do not have to recharge manually again and again. If customers want, they can recharge Fastag in many ways. This includes UPI and netbanking payment system.
Real-time updates will be available soon
Currently, all national highway toll plazas use the ICD 2.5 protocol, which provides real-time Fastag status. However, some state highways use the older ICD 2.4 protocol, which receives updates late. The government will soon convert these toll plazas to ICD 2.5.
