Rising cab fares in Delhi-NCR have everyone worried. Now, a social media user has brought this issue to light again by comparing Delhi-Leh flight fares and Gurugram-Greater Noida cab fares.
Flight Ticket Fares: A post is going viral on social media, making people laugh, wonder, and ponder. In this viral post, a Delhi-based writer compared the cost of a flight ticket from Delhi to Leh and the fare of a cab from Gurugram to Greater Noida. People were surprised by the high fare.
On Wednesday, Delhi-based writer Aaryansh shared a screenshot on social media, showing the fare for a SpiceJet Delhi-Leh flight at just ₹1,540. In contrast, the fare for a cab from Gurugram to Greater Noida was ₹1,952.61. This means that a road journey of just 70 kilometers is more expensive than air travel. A flight from Delhi to Leh covers the 620-kilometer journey in just 1 hour and 30 minutes, while a cab takes over three hours to reach Noida.
Aaryansh jokingly wrote, “Today, flying from Delhi to Ladakh is cheaper than taking a cab from Gurugram to Greater Noida.” The post went viral, garnering over 55,000 views within hours. The post sparked a variety of reactions online. Some users found the comparison amusing. One user quipped, “Delhi to Leh is 2 hours, Gurugram to Greater Noida is 3.5 hours. Prices are also accordingly.” Another person inquired about the validity of the fare, and the author replied that the fare was available for the next two to three months, i.e., during the winter.

Rising cab fares are worrying everyone.
Many people shared their experiences with the rising fares of app cabs. One user wrote that a few months ago, an Uber from Gurugram to Greater Noida on Saturdays used to cost only ₹400, but now the same trip costs ₹1,200 to ₹1,300. He advised that services like Rapido are comparatively cheaper on this route, costing around ₹900.
Why are flight fares low?
Not everyone agreed with this comparison. Some pointed out that the airfare of ₹1,540 was so low because it was off-season. One user wrote that the same ticket could go up to ₹15,000 in the summer. In winter, Leh’s temperatures drop below freezing and water is scarce, so passenger traffic decreases and fares fall. Another user suggested posting the comparison again in February and March, when fares rise to ₹2,399 or even higher.
Fares double in June-September
According to Google Flights, round-trip tickets to Leh during the off-season range from 10,000 to 25,000 rupees. Fares are lowest during January to March and November-December, with one-way tickets from Delhi or Srinagar often available for 3,000 to 6,000 rupees. However, during the peak season from June to September, prices double, with round-trip fares reaching 25,000 to 50,000 rupees or more.
