Flights Cancelled: Fog and bad weather in northern India forced IndiGo to cancel 109 flights across the country on Monday, causing significant disruptions to arrivals and departures at major airports, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. IndiGo issued a clarification, blaming the fog and bad weather for the flight cancellations and stating that the company had no operational shortcomings.
What statement did IndiGo issue?
IndiGo said, “The situation was beyond our control due to the deteriorating weather, as visibility levels dropped below the prescribed minimum operating level due to fog at Delhi and other airports in northern India. Operations have been significantly impacted due to the dense fog, and to prioritize safety and reduce long waits at airports, some flights are being cancelled as a precautionary measure throughout the day.”

IndiGo further stated in its statement, “Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Delhi Airport in accordance with established safety protocols. Passengers are requested to check their flight status through the company’s website or mobile application.” The company also regretted any delays caused by changes to operations due to current weather conditions.
Delhi’s AQI worsens
Poor weather conditions have worsened the severe air quality crisis in Delhi. Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed 456, entering the “severe plus” category. Ashok Vihar recorded an AQI of 500 early in the morning. Anand Vihar and Akshardham recorded an AQI of 493, and Dwarka recorded 469. Similarly, the situation remained serious in Noida, where the AQI was 454, which falls into the “severe plus” category.
