Free Aadhaar Update: Aadhaar update is now absolutely free for children between 5 and 15 years of age.

Free Aadhaar Update: This initiative is extremely important because government services can often be blocked due to children’s Aadhaar not being updated on time. In such cases, families face difficulties in verifying their identity. Understanding this problem, UIDAI has taken a major step, which will now bring relief to millions of children. If Aadhaar is not updated at the age of 5 or 15, many problems can arise, from school admission to availing benefits of schemes. Now UIDAI has made everyone aware by providing the facility of free biometric update, so that no child faces any problem in the future.

Free Aadhaar Update: Aadhaar has become an essential identity document for everyone in India. From school admissions to availing government schemes, Aadhaar is required everywhere. Therefore, it’s crucial for children to keep their Aadhaar updated. Keeping this in mind, UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has launched a new initiative for children.

Why was this step taken?

UIDAI says that many children’s biometrics aren’t updated on time when they reach the ages of 5 and 15. Often, children’s Aadhaar updates are delayed due to lack of information, time constraints, or the process being difficult. Recognizing this problem, UIDAI, in collaboration with the Behavioral Insights Team (BIT), has launched a new campaign to increase awareness and promote the habit of timely updating.

When and why is it necessary to update children’s biometrics?

When a child turns 5, their fingerprints and iris change. Therefore, it’s necessary to re-enroll their biometrics in Aadhaar. This process must be repeated at age 15 to avoid future identification issues and facilitate easy access to government benefits. With accurate information, every child will be able to use Aadhaar seamlessly.

What will be the cost and where will the update take place?

The best part is that starting October 1, 2025, children’s biometric updates will be free for one year. Parents can visit any Aadhaar enrolment centre and get the update done. Simply bring the child’s Aadhaar number with them. A list of authorised centres is available on the Bhuvan Aadhaar portal.
