During this festive season, kitchen expenses often overwhelm the budget, especially gas cylinders. It’s a relief for poor families in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh that the governments are offering significant relief to those in need. Let’s find out who will benefit from this scheme and how.
Delhi Government’s Gift: Money in Accounts for Festivals
The Delhi government has decided to provide direct financial assistance to eligible families for major festivals like Holi and Diwali. This Holi, Rs. 853 will be transferred directly to your bank account so you can refill your gas cylinder at your convenience.
· Budget: The government has allocated a budget of around Rs 242 crore for this scheme.
· How many will benefit: It is estimated that approximately 1.75 million ration card-holding families in the capital will benefit from this scheme.
· Important: If your home has a pipeline gas (PNG) connection, you will still receive this assistance. Equal relief will be provided to everyone, whether in the city or in a slum.
Free cylinders for Ujjwala women in Uttar Pradesh
Yogi Adityanath’s government in Uttar Pradesh has been providing significant relief to poor families during Holi and Diwali for the past several years. Women in the state who receive gas connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will receive free gas cylinders on Holi.
Objective: The government states that this decision will directly benefit rural and economically disadvantaged women and reduce their kitchen expenses during festivals.
Beneficiary: Only families registered under the Ujjwala Yojana will be eligible for this scheme.
Who will not be eligible?
In Delhi, only families with valid ration cards will be eligible. Government employees, pensioners, and families without ration cards are excluded from this scheme. In Uttar Pradesh, only families enrolled under the Ujjwala Yojana will be eligible for the free cylinder. If you are not enrolled in this scheme, you will not receive this benefit.
Eligibility for a connection under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
The applicant must be a woman who has attained the age of 18.
There must be no other LPG connection from any other oil marketing company in the same household.
The adult woman must certify her belonging to a poor family by submitting a deprivation declaration as per the prescribed format.
Required Documents
1. Know Your Customer (KYC) application form.
2. Identity proof (copy of applicant’s Aadhaar card).
3. Address proof (only if the address given in Aadhaar is different from the current address) (self-declaration as per Annexure-I for migrant applicants).
4. Ration card issued by the state from which the application is being made or other state government document certifying family structure (self-declaration as per Annexure-I for migrant applicants).
5. Copy of Aadhaar card of the applicant and adult family members listed in the document given in Serial No. 4.
6. Bank account details (copy of passbook/cancelled cheque).
7. Deprivation declaration
Applicants can apply by submitting an application to any distributor of their choice or by sending a request through the online portal.
