Bank Holiday: Banks are going to be closed tomorrow on Friday. All private and public sector banks of the country are going to be closed on Friday 15th August. The whole country will celebrate Independence Day on 15th August and due to this banks are going to be closed across the country.

Banks will be closed on Friday 15th August 2025

On the occasion of Independence Day, there will be a public holiday in banks across the country on Friday 15th August 2025. Banking services will be closed at the branch level on this day, but digital services like ATM, internet banking and mobile banking will be available to customers as before. This holiday is included in the list of notified holidays of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and will be applicable to all government and private banks.

Online banking service will be available on bank holiday

During bank holidays, you will be able to do transactions through net banking, mobile banking, UPI and ATM. But services like check clearing and draft making will remain closed. If you have to settle any important bank work, then plan before or after these dates. Digital transactions will be possible during the holidays, but the service available at the branch will not be available.

List of holidays for August 2025

15 August (Friday) – Independence Day / Parsi New Year / Janmashtami – Banks will remain closed across the country.

On this day India will celebrate its 78th Independence Day. Which is celebrated to commemorate independence from British rule in 1947.

16 August (Saturday) – Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8) / Krishna Jayanti – Holiday in many cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Ranchi, Jammu etc. will remain closed.

Janmashtami is the festival of birth of Lord Krishna, which is celebrated on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month.

19 August (Tuesday) – Birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur – Holiday in Agartala only

25 August (Monday) – Srimanta Sankardeva Tirubhav Tithi – Holiday in Guwahati only

27 August (Wednesday) – Ganesh Chaturthi / Samvatsari / Ganesh Puja – Holiday in cities like Mumbai, Nagpur, Chennai, Hyderabad etc.

28 August (Thursday) – Ganesh Chaturthi (second day) / Nuakhai – Holiday in Bhubaneswar and Panaji

BSE and NSE will also remain closed on 15 August 2025 on the occasion of Independence Day.
