A major gold smuggling racket has been busted at Bengaluru International Airport, leaving even security agencies astonished. Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) executed an operation resulting in the seizure of gold worth approximately ₹5 crore. This operation follows the recently surfaced ‘Ranya Rao’ case, making it evident that smuggling networks remain continuously active. A total of five accused individuals have been arrested in connection with this case. Preliminary investigations suggest that this matter is linked to international smuggling operations. Currently, agencies are conducting an in-depth investigation into the entire network.

The investigation has revealed that the gold was brought into India via Bangladesh. The smugglers were executing this illicit activity in a highly organized and systematic manner. They employed various routes and methods to evade the airport’s security protocols. Officials believe that this is not merely a small-time gang, but rather a module of a larger international network. The smugglers’ connections may extend to masterminds operating from abroad; consequently, the DRI is now actively probing the international links associated with this case.

The most shocking aspect of this case is the method of smuggling employed. The accused had concealed the gold in the form of capsules and a paste-like substance. They subsequently hid these items within their private body parts to avoid detection during security scanning. This method is considered extremely dangerous and fraught with risk; nevertheless, driven by greed, smugglers continue to resort to such desperate measures. DRI officials successfully busted this smuggling operation through a combination of specialized investigative techniques and technical surveillance.

The DRI had received prior intelligence regarding this smuggling operation, following which surveillance at the airport was intensified. Based on suspicious activity, the five accused individuals were intercepted and subjected to scrutiny. The full extent of the scheme came to light when they were frisked and searched. Subsequently, all the accused were arrested on the spot. Officials stated that intelligence inputs and technical resources played a pivotal role in this operation. Such enforcement actions aim to curb the audacity of smugglers.

Currently, the DRI team is interrogating the arrested individuals to uncover the full scope of this entire racket. Agencies suspect that several other individuals are involved in this syndicate, which has been engaged in smuggling activities for a considerable period. Financial transactions and international linkages pertinent to this case are also being investigated. The DRI is attempting to ascertain the total quantity of gold that has been smuggled into India through this network thus far. Further major revelations regarding this case are anticipated in the coming days.

Instances of gold smuggling have surfaced at Bengaluru Airport on numerous occasions in the past. The recent ‘Ranya Rao’ case, in which similar modus operandi were employed, also garnered significant media attention. These incidents clearly demonstrate that smugglers are constantly devising novel methods to evade the law. However, the vigilance and proactive measures undertaken by law enforcement agencies are leading to the dismantling of such rackets. The government and investigative agencies are now preparing to implement even stricter measures to curb such smuggling activities.
