If you pay electricity, gas or water bills through Google Pay, then this news is important for you. Now Google Pay will have to pay an additional charge for all these recharges. Google Pay has now started charging convenience fee on utility bill payments. Earlier there was no charge on small transactions, but now a charge of 0.5% to 1% and GST will also have to be paid on payment by debit and credit card. However, if you pay directly from the bank account through UPI, then there will be no additional charge.
This charge will be applicable on electricity, water and gas bill payment. A year ago, Google Pay charged Rs 3 on mobile recharge and now this rule has been implemented on bill payment as well.
PhonePe and Paytm also charge
PhonePe and Paytm are already charging processing fees on bill payments, mobile recharges and other services. Now Google Pay has also adopted the same model. However, there will be no charge for direct bank transfer from UPI. On paying electricity bill through credit card from Google Pay, a customer had to pay a convenience fee of about Rs 15, which also included GST. This charge was also called processing fee for debit and credit card payment.
No charge will be levied from UPI
Google Pay has a large share in UPI transactions which is about 37%. PhonePe is at the first position in UPI payment, while Google Pay is at second place. Till January, Google Pay had processed UPI transactions worth Rs 8.26 lakh crore. Earlier Google Pay used to bear the processing cost itself, but now this cost is being taken from the users. It has been told on the website of Google Pay that a convenience fee will be charged on payment by card, while there will be no charge for payment directly from bank account through UPI.
