Government closed schools, banks and other educational institutions in many districts of this state, know the reason

Tamil Nadu is facing heavy rains these days. Due to heavy rains, holiday has been declared in schools and other educational institutions in 4 districts of Tamil Nadu today.

These days many parts of the country are being hit by cold and heavy rain. Tamil Nadu is also bearing the brunt of this. Tamil Nadu government has declared holiday in all schools, colleges, private institutions, banks and financial institutions in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Tenkasi districts today i.e. Monday due to heavy rains. According to ANI news, rain continues in Thoothukudi district at night and 40 lakes in Kovilpatti area have reached above their full capacity. Heavy rains caused severe waterlogging in Thoothukudi.

IMD predicted heavy rain

At the same time, IMD has predicted that heavy rain is expected at one or two places in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi. According to the IMD forecast, there is a possibility of heavy rain at one or two places in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai and Thanjavur districts of Tamil Nadu on December 18. According to IMD forecast, there is a possibility of storm and lightning at one or two places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on December 19. Kovilpatti, Ettayapuram, Vilathikulam, Kalugumalai, Kaythar, Kadambur, Vembar, Surangudi and other areas of Thoothukudi district have been receiving continuous rain since Sunday morning.

Due to this heavy rain, the rivers and lakes around Kovilpatti have reached their full capacity and water is flowing from the lakes. Apart from this, when rain water started flowing out of the river in Kousalipatti and Inam Maniyachi areas, sandbags and JCB machines were used to stop the water.

“40 lakes filled due to rain”

Thoothukudi District Development Officer Rajesh said, “Kovilpatti panchayat is full of 40 lakes. Two lakes were damaged and we have repaired them. We are continuously monitoring other lakes also. If there is any breach in the lake, we are ready to repair it immediately.”

SDRF and NDRF deployed

At the same time, the Tamil Nadu government has taken precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the people. On the situation of heavy rains and waterlogging, State Disaster Management Minister KKSSR Ramachandran said, “Several precautionary measures have been taken by the Tamil Nadu government. As a precautionary measure, 250 SDRF and NDRF have been deployed in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Tenkasi districts.” 19 camps in Tirunelveli district, 4 camps in Kanyakumari district, 2 camps in Thoothukudi district and 1 camp in Tenkasi district have been set up to accommodate people during disasters. The CM has directed us to remain on the spot and take necessary measures to ensure the safety of the people.”
