This initiative, initiated by senior Army officers and the leadership of the Ministry of Railways, will increase awareness about the jobs available in the Railways, as well as establish a dedicated support system for retired personnel.
Government Jobs for Agniveer: Indian Railways and the Indian Army have launched a significant initiative, the “Framework of Collaboration.” The primary objective of this framework is to facilitate a smooth transition of Agniveers and serving/retired military personnel to civilian life after military service and to expand employment opportunities in the Railways.
Launched by senior Army officers and the leadership of the Ministry of Railways, this initiative will increase awareness about available jobs in the Railways and establish a dedicated support system for retired personnel. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to providing meaningful second careers to veterans and contributing to national development goals.
Indian Railways considers the welfare and rehabilitation of veterans an integral part of its policies. Under this framework, special horizontal reservations have been ensured for veterans and former Agniveers:
For ex-servicemen: 10% reservation in Level-2 and above posts and 20% reservation in Level-1 posts.
For ex-fire warriors: 5% reservation in Level-2 and above posts and 10% reservation in Level-1 posts.
A total of 14,788 posts were reserved for ex-servicemen in various Railway recruitment notifications for the years 2024 and 2025, including 6,485 Level-1 posts and 8,303 Level-2/above posts. Recruitment to these posts is done through competitive examinations conducted through Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) and Railway Recruitment Centres (RRCs).
Additionally, to expedite filling of existing vacancies and promote faster recruitment of ex-servicemen, the Ministry of Railways has decided to appoint ex-servicemen to the post of Pointsman on a contract basis until the regular recruitment process is completed. More than 5,000 positions are planned for this purpose, and nine railway divisions across the country have already signed MoUs with military organizations.
This collaboration is not only significant for the first batch retiring in 2026 under the Agniveer scheme, but also symbolizes the strong coordination between the military and civilian sectors. This will provide respectable and stable employment to former servicemen, putting their skills and discipline to use in a large organization like the Railways.
