The official said that two-wheelers, electric and CNG vehicles, vehicles registered in Uttarakhand, vehicles engaged in essential services like ambulance and fire brigade will be exempted. Joint Commissioner (Transport) Sanat Kumar Singh said that the tender process has been started to implement the system of levying cess. He said that ‘Our target is to start this system by the end of December.’ He said that automatic number plate recognition cameras will identify vehicles registered outside Uttarakhand and the money will be deducted directly from the FASTag wallet of the vehicle owners.
How much charge will be levied on which vehicle?
The Joint Commissioner said that three wheeler vehicles will be charged Rs 20, four wheeler Rs 40, mid size vehicles like small trucks etc. Rs 60 and heavy vehicles Rs 80. The officer said that green cess will be charged on the basis of one day’s entry, but vehicle owners will also have the option to take long term passes. For example, for quarterly pass, 20 times the daily charge will have to be paid and for annual pass, 60 times the fee will have to be paid.
