Heavy Rain Alert: Many states of North India are facing the brunt of continuous rain and floods these days. The Indian Meteorological Department on Monday issued a red alert for some areas of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The department says that there is a danger of floods and landslides due to heavy rains in the hilly areas of Punjab, which may worsen the waterlogging situation in the lower areas. At the same time, the Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib Yatra have been stopped for the time being amid deteriorating weather.

Ban on Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra

In view of the red and orange alert of the Uttarakhand Meteorological Department, Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib Yatra have been postponed till September 5. Let us tell you that this information was given by Vinay Shankar Pandey, Secretary of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Commissioner of Garhwal Division. At the same time, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the next 24 to 48 hours will be very important. He told that the people whose houses have been affected by the rain are being shifted to safer places.

According to the information, Chief Minister Dhami said, “Some of our districts are on red alert and some on orange alert. The next 24 to 48 hours are very important and all are being closely monitored. The district administration, NDRF, SDRF and all departments are on full alert. We are also keeping an eye on the Nanak Sagar Dam, which is currently flowing 5 feet below the danger mark.” Red alert continues in Almora, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar and Champawat, while orange alert has been declared for the rest of the districts.

Heavy destruction in Himachal

Natural disasters have affected many areas of Himachal Pradesh including Chamba and Shimla. 16 devotees died during the Mani Mahesh Yatra in Chamba. The Yatra had to be stopped midway due to bad weather, due to which more than 15 thousand devotees were stranded on the way. More than 300 people have lost their lives since the onset of monsoon in Himachal Pradesh. Continuous rain has caused many natural disasters in the state. The situation worsened on Monday, when 16 people died in Chamba and three people lost their lives when a house was buried by a landslide in Shimla.

More than 800 roads closed

The situation has worsened due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh. 819 roads, including three national highways, are closed, while 1,236 power transformers and 424 water schemes have been affected. According to ANI, 253 roads are blocked in Chamba, 206 in Mandi, 175 in Kullu and 61 in Kangra. Relief and rescue operations may become more difficult in the coming days as a red alert has been issued for the next three days in several districts, including Una, Bilaspur, Solan and Sirmaur.
