Iran closed its airspace due to escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. IndiGo flight 6E1808, traveling from Georgia to India, passed through Iran just before the airspace closure.
New Delhi. The situation between the US and Iran is continuously worsening. Due to this, Iran closed its airspace. A plane coming from Georgia to India passed over it just minutes before the closure of Iran’s airspace.
Due to the closure of Iran’s airspace, no other country’s plane can fly over this country. Meanwhile, a plane coming from Georgia to India passed over Iran’s airspace just minutes before it was closed.
Indian plane overflew Iran
According to flight tracking data, IndiGo flight 6E1808 departed from Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, at 11:45 pm on January 14th. The route from Georgia to India was through Iranian airspace.
Iran had announced the closure of its airspace from 3 am on January 11th to 12th. The IndiGo flight crossed Iranian airspace at 2:35 am. After 3 am, flights from countries other than Iran were not permitted to overfly Iran’s airspace.
Iran-US tensions rising
Protests against the government of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei are ongoing in Iran. More than 2,000 people have died in these protests. Iranian officials have acknowledged the high number of deaths in the nationwide protests, while thousands have been arrested.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed his support for the protesters in Iran. Iran has closed its airspace in response to US threats and the continued escalation of tensions within its country.
