Indian travellers can bring 1 kg of gold from Dubai, but will have to pay custom duty. Men can bring 20 grams and women can bring up to 40 grams without duty. 3% duty will be levied on up to 50 grams, 6% on up to 100 grams and 10% on more than that.
New Delhi. Dubai is a major destination for Indians to buy gold. Dubai’s gold has always attracted Indians due to its low price and pure quality in Dubai as compared to India. Apart from this, tourists who go to Dubai buy gold as a souvenir. According to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), Indian travelers can bring up to one kilogram of gold (in the form of coins and bars) in their luggage after spending more than six months in Dubai. Yes, they will have to pay custom duty for this. Passengers who bring gold more than this limit will have to declare it as “dutiable” gold and come to the airport through the red channel.
Male passengers can bring up to 20 grams of gold in the form of coins and bars from Dubai to India without paying custom duty. Female passengers can bring up to 40 grams of gold in the form of jewelry, coins or bars without paying custom duty. Children under the age of 15 can bring up to 40 grams of gold in the form of jewelry, gifts or presents. However, proof of identity of their relationship with the adults accompanying them is a must. Passengers must have proper documentary proof of their gold.
Who will have to pay how much tax
If male passengers coming from Dubai bring more than 20 grams and up to 50 grams of gold with them, then they will have to pay 3% customs duty. 6% customs duty will have to be paid on 50-100 grams and 10% customs duty on more than 100 grams. Women and children bringing gold from Dubai will have to pay 3% customs duty on more than 40 and up to 100 grams of gold. 6% customs duty will have to be paid on 100-200 grams and 10% customs duty will have to be paid on more than 200 grams.
