Action will be taken on charging higher rates

It will be monitored everyday at the prescribed rate. Strict action will be taken against the private Kovid Vaccination Center for charging higher rates. The Center has asked the states not to take private hospitals more than Rs 150 for the service charge. The state governments have to monitor them.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Union Health Ministry had said that the price of Kovid-19 vaccines for private sectors and hospitals will be decided by the vaccine manufacturers. The ministry also said that states would aggregate the demand from the private sector, which means they would monitor the network of facilities it had and the dosage it needed.

NITI Aayog member Dr VK Paul also said that the Center has ordered to procure 25 crore doses of Covishield and 19 crore doses of Covaxin. The government has also ordered the purchase of 30 crore doses of biological e vaccine, which will be available by September. They said. “We must wait for the company (Biological E) to announce the price of their vaccine (Corbevax). This will depend on our negotiations with the company under the new policy, the financial assistance given will meet the cost part.

On the other hand, PM Modi had said on the previous day that the central government will give free of cost to all the state governments to vaccinate youth above 18 years of age from June 21. Now all citizens above 18 years of age will be given free doses of vaccine in government health facilities with the aim of speeding up the nationwide immunization campaign more rapidly. The Prime Minister said that private sector hospitals can continue to procure 25 per cent of the vaccines, but their service charges will be capped at Rs 150 per dose from the fixed price of the vaccine.
