How to change the address written on the Aadhaar card? Know the complete process and necessary documents for online update from home

How to update Aadhaar Card Address: Aadhaar card is the most important document related to the identity of every Indian today. It is very important to have the address and other information of Aadhaar card correct in banking, government schemes and any kind of verification. If your address has changed, then now you do not need to go to the Aadhaar center. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has provided online address update facility for citizens. For this, it is necessary to link your mobile number with Aadhaar and have a valid address proof.

Process to change Aadhaar card address online

First of all go to myAadhaar portal and enter 12 digit Aadhaar number. Then fill the captcha and login with the OTP received on your registered mobile. After that-

Now click on the ‘Address Update’ option.

After this, select ‘Update Aadhaar Online’ and after reading the instructions click on ‘Proceed to Update Aadhaar’.

Select the ‘Address’ field for update.

Fill the new address carefully. If needed, also enter “Care of” (C/O). After this, choose the correct post office and upload a scanned copy of the address proof document.

After checking all the details, pay a non-refundable fee of Rs 50 online and submit the application.

After submitting the application, you will get a Service Request Number (SRN). Through this, you will be able to track the status of your update.

With which documents can you change the address in Aadhaar?

UIDAI accepts many types of address proof documents. Some of the major ones are:

Passport

Voter ID card or ration card

Bank or post office passbook / statement

Driving license

Electricity, water, gas or telephone bill (issued within 3 months)

Property tax receipt (within 1 year)

Rent agreement (both registered or unregistered)

Insurance policy documents

Apart from this, proof of identity such as PAN card, passport or voter ID can also be asked for.

How to check update status?

After completing all the process for update, you can also check the update status through UIDAI website. For this, you have to follow the steps included below-

Go to UIDAI website.

Select ‘Check Aadhaar Update Status’ option.

Enter your URN (Update Request Number) and captcha.

After submitting, you will see the current status of the update.

How to download new Aadhaar card?

After the address is updated, you can download the updated Aadhaar from myAadhaar portal.

For this, choose ‘Download Aadhaar’ option and do authentication through OTP.
Aadhaar will be available in the form of PDF file, which you can print.

If you want, you can also get a copy of physical Aadhaar by paying Rs 50 from UIDAI.
