New Delhi, Business Desk. After filling your income tax return, if you feel that you have missed an ITR or have left something important, then there is no need to worry. You can get your ITR rectified within a certain period of time from the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department. However, if you have filled in the manual manually, then it cannot be improved by any electronic or online means. The amended ITR means the ITR filled with correction under section 139 (5) of the Income Tax Act.
The step-by-step process of filling the revised ITR online is as follows:
First of all log on to the e-filing portal of Income Tax Department https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home.
Log in to the e-filing portal with your PAN number, password and captcha code.
Click on the ‘E-File’ menu and then click on the link of ‘Income Tax Return’.
On the Income Tax Return page, your PAN number will come automatically filled.
Now select the assessment year and ITR form number.
Now select the option of Original / Revised Return in Filing Type.
After this, click on ‘Prepare and Submit Online’ in ‘Submission Mode’.
Under ‘General Information’ tab, select ‘Revised Return Under Section 139 (5)’ in ‘Return Filing Section’ and ‘Revised’ in ‘Return Filing Type’ under the online ITR form.
Now select the ‘enrollment number’ entered in the original ITR and the date of filing the ITR.
Now fill the relevant information and after that make corrections and submit it to ITR.
