IMD Alert: Heavy rains wreak havoc in Chennai, schools and colleges closed, red alert issued

Chennai Weather: Heavy rain is falling in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. Due to which people are in a bad condition. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in view of heavy rains in the coastal districts of the state. Due to this, schools and colleges have been closed. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains for the next 5 days.

Heavy rain Alert: The rain in Tamil Nadu of South India is not stopping. Heavy rains have been occurring in many areas of the state since November 21. Due to this, reports of waterlogging in residential areas have come to the fore. People are facing floods in many places. The regional meteorological department says that a deep pressure is forming over the Bay of Bengal. It is moving towards Sri Lanka. Heavy rains are expected in the coastal and delta districts of Tamil Nadu from November 26 for the next 5 days. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rains in 5 districts of the state.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department (India Meteorological Department – IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rains in three central districts of Tamil Nadu on November 26. At the same time, a red alert has been issued for extremely heavy rains in two districts on November 27. Apart from this, a yellow alert has been issued in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet from November 27 to 29.

Schools and colleges closed in Tamil Nadu

Holidays have been declared in schools and colleges in many areas including Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Tiruvarur in view of the possibility of heavy rains in the state. The weather in these delta districts has been very bad since November 26. The sky is cloudy. In Thoothukudi, people are facing floods in Rajagopal Nagar, Pushpa Nagar, Raju Nagar, Postal Telegram Colony and other parts of the city. The Meteorological Department has predicted extremely heavy rains in many areas of Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai districts and Karaikal region. The Meteorological further said that heavy rains may occur in Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Villupuram, Puducherry, Sivaganga, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai districts.

How much rain has fallen in Chennai so far

Earlier last week, heavy rains occurred in Nagapattinam, Thoothukudi and Karaikal districts. Due to which the administration had closed schools and colleges. The Meteorological Department says that Chennai has received 55 cm of rain since October 1. Whereas Tamil Nadu has received 33 cm of rain.
