IMD Alert: The wait for rain is about to end. Uttarakhand has not seen rain for nearly three months, leading to drought conditions. The dry cold weather that has plagued the region since January has so far caused significant discomfort. Dense fog has reduced visibility in the plains of Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar, Pauri, Champawat, Nainital, and Dehradun, leaving people shivering in the cold. Due to sub-zero temperatures in the mountains, rivers, streams, and water taps have frozen solid. People are terrified by the frost. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for a severe cold wave in Haridwar and US Nagar.

The IMD has also issued a dense fog alert for the plains of US Nagar, Haridwar, Nainital, Pauri, Dehradun, and Champawat districts. According to the IMD, a western disturbance is rapidly intensifying. Due to this, rain is expected in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh districts on January 17 and 18. Snowfall is also expected in areas above 3,400 meters in the state for two days.

Schools will open at 8:30 AM
Due to the intense cold, school timings have also changed. In view of the extreme cold, Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal has ordered all schools from grades 1 to 12 and Anganwadi centers in the district to open only after 8:30 AM. A warning has also been issued that action will be taken against those violating the order. The weather will remain dry in the state today. An orange alert has been issued for a severe cold wave in US Nagar and Haridwar districts.
