Cyclone Senyar Updates IMD Alert: According to IMD, there is a possibility of Cyclone Senyar passing through the coast of Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh around 29-30 November, hence the possibility of heavy rains is being predicted.
Cyclone Senyar Updates IMD Alert: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said in its latest bulletin on Wednesday that Cyclone Senyar has crossed the coast of Indonesia and is moving rapidly towards India i.e. in the Bay of Bengal. The Meteorological Department has said that due to this storm, heavy to very heavy rains may occur in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 26 and 27 November, while on 28 and 29 November, torrential rains along with strong winds may occur in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and surrounding states including Andaman and some other places. IMD has said that during this time winds may also blow at a speed of 80 to 100 kilometers. The rainy season is expected to continue till 1 December.
IMD has informed that Cyclonic Storm “Senyar” formed over Malacca Strait and adjoining Northeast Indonesia is moving towards Southwest Bay of Bengal and South Sri Lanka and adjoining areas of Equatorial Indian Ocean, where a well marked low pressure area is persisting. Due to this, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu during 26th November-01st December, while extremely heavy rainfall is likely at some places on 29th and 30th November. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely at some places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Yanam and Rayalaseema on 29th and 30th November 2025.
Where will ‘Senyar’ pass through India?
According to the IMD, Cyclone Senyar is likely to cross the coast of Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh around November 29-30, which is why heavy rainfall is expected. The Meteorological Department has also stated that it will only be clear whether it will move north and northwest, i.e., towards Bengal, Odisha, and Bangladesh, after observing wind conditions and the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal on November 27 (Thursday). This cyclone brewing in the Bay of Bengal has been named ‘Senyar,’ meaning lion. This suggests it may have a speed comparable to a lion’s roar. This name was given to it by the United Arab Emirates. It is the next name in the list of cyclones in the North Indian Ocean.
⚠️ IMD Weather Warning
Cyclonic Storm “Senyar” is active over the Strait of Malacca. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on Nov 26–27, and heavy rain on Nov 28–29, 2025.

Massive Destruction in Malaysia and Thailand
On the other hand, before turning into a cyclonic storm, this low pressure caused massive devastation in Malaysia and Thailand. According to a Reuters report, heavy rains caused by this weather system have disrupted life in Thailand and Malaysia. The Thai government on Wednesday airlifted patients and delivered essential supplies, including oxygen tanks, to a southern city submerged by heavy rain. The death toll from the storm’s worst flooding in years in the region has risen to 33, the report said.
Moving through Indonesia towards the Bay of Bengal
Flooding has hit nine provinces in Thailand and eight states in neighboring Malaysia, forcing the evacuation of approximately 50,000 people in both countries. Flooding and landslides in Indonesia are also estimated to have killed 13 people, while one death has been reported in Malaysia. The Thai Meteorological Department said the low-pressure system has now moved towards the Strait of Malacca and has intensified into a tropical cyclone, which is moving through Indonesia towards the Bay of Bengal.
