An alert has been issued for lightning, hailstorms, and strong winds from the mountains to the plains on Monday, June 6. Thunderstorms and winds blowing at speeds of up to 50 km per hour from Dehradun to Pithoragarh could worsen the situation. The Meteorological Department has issued orange and yellow alerts for several districts. Snowfall is also expected in hilly areas.
Orange alert in these districts
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Tehri, and Haridwar on Monday. These districts are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, strong winds of up to 40-50 km/h, and hailstorms.
Snowfall expected in the mountains, Yellow Alert
Heavy rain is expected in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Dehradun, Haridwar, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Tehri, Pauri, and Nainital districts, and snowfall is also possible in higher elevations (altitudes around 4,000 meters) – a Yellow Alert has been issued for this.
Meteorological Department Warning
According to Dr. C.S. Tomar, Director of the Meteorological Department, this unstable weather pattern requires people to be cautious during indoor and outdoor activities. He said that ground-level monitoring, drainage, and rescue measures should be ensured in vulnerable areas for rain and strong winds. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay in open spaces, limit the use of electrical appliances, and regularly check weather updates.
