IMD Alert: The weather has changed once again. It rained in Delhi-NCR yesterday, and today the weather has suddenly changed, with strong winds, dust storms, and thunderstorms, bringing pleasant weather. Clouds are visible in many states across the country, and rain has fallen in some places. Snowfall in the mountains has affected normal life. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm alert for 21 states and hailstorms for six states from March 19 to March 22, 2026. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather conditions are expected to become more severe on March 20. Rain accompanied by strong winds is expected. A hailstorm alert has also been issued in several states.

Weather Changes Due to the Active Western Disturbance

According to the Meteorological Department, the active Western Disturbance across North India will bring thunderstorms, rain, and hailstorms in several states over the next 24 hours. A lightning alert has also been issued in some areas. Due to the impact of a new strong disturbance in the hilly areas, heavy snowfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal and Uttarakhand. On Friday, an alert of thunderstorm and heavy rain has been issued in many places of the northeastern states Odisha, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. Skymet has indicated rain in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Maharashtra, Vidarbha and Marathwada.

  • Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of around 27 degrees Celsius on Thursday. The weather will remain pleasant on Friday as well. On March 20th, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and parts of Madhya Pradesh are expected to experience strong dust storms, rain, hailstorms, and lightning. Winds will blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour for the next two days, providing relief from the heat.
  • In Uttar Pradesh, a thunderstorm alert has been issued for Noida, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Amroha, Meerut, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Badaun, Sambhal, Hapur, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Agra, Mathura, Hathras, Kasganj, Etah, and Firozabad on March 20th. Hailstorms are possible in some districts of West Uttar Pradesh, and lightning is also possible in some areas.
  • The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy storm and rain accompanied by hailstorm and lightning in Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Bhojpur, Buxar, Arwal, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Nawada, Jamui, Sheikhpura, East Champaran, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Samastipur, Madhubani, Supaul, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Begusarai and Khagaria in Bihar on March 20.
  • Due to a western disturbance in Rajasthan, the IMD has predicted strong thunderstorms and rain in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, Udaipur, Shekhawati, and parts of Kota divisions over the next two days. A warning has also been issued for lightning and hailstorms in some areas during this period.
  • A new western disturbance is expected to bring thunderstorms and rain to Haryana and Punjab over the next two days. There is a risk of hailstorms and lightning in some areas. Rainfall is particularly likely in Hisar, Narnaul, Bhiwani, Charkhi, and Dadri, among other districts. An alert has been issued for strong thunderstorms, rain, and hailstorms in several districts of Punjab, including Chandigarh, Pathankot, Amritsar, Patiala, Rupnagar, Ludhiana, and SBS Nagar.
  • In Uttarakhand, weather activity will continue in Rudraprayag, Kedarnath Dham, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar over the next 24 hours.
  • In Himachal Pradesh, heavy rain and snowfall is expected in some areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kukumseri, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Chamba, and Kangra until March 24. An orange alert has been issued for thunderstorms and hailstorms accompanied by lightning during this period.
  • Snowfall is occurring in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Ganderbal, Sonamarg, Chenab Valley, Baramulla, Kupwara, Mughal Road, Srinag Valley, and higher reaches of South Kashmir.
  • Inclement weather is expected in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • An orange alert for rain has been issued for Odisha, Sikkim, Assam, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand in the Northeast.
