The weather across the country remains cool and pleasant. On April 7, rain, strong winds, and isolated hailstorms are likely in several states. Temperatures will remain low in many regions, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Snowfall is possible in the mountains.
IMD Rainfall Alert: This year, the weather has brought significant relief to the public. Following March, April, too, has not been excessively hot so far. Instead of scorching sunshine and heatwaves, intermittent rainfall and cool breezes are providing comfort to the people. While the heat intensifies slightly on some days, the temperature subsequently drops due to the rain.
According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions across the country are expected to remain variable on April 7 as well. Several distinct weather systems—such as Western Disturbances, cyclonic circulations, and trough lines—are currently active in various regions. Consequently, conditions are developing that could lead to rainfall in some areas, thunderstorms in others, and hailstorms in yet other locations.
According to the IMD, the impact of a Western Disturbance will be observed across North India, potentially leading to light to moderate rainfall, snowfall, and hailstorms. An alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for the northeastern states.
Meanwhile, light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, along with strong winds, is also likely in Central and South India. In many places, wind speeds could range from 30 to 50 km/h, while in some areas, they could reach up to 60 to 70 km/h.
The Meteorological Department has also stated that an active Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir, along with a weather system formed near the South Caspian Sea, is influencing the weather conditions. Furthermore, cyclonic systems formed over the Bay of Bengal and in certain parts of the country are also contributing to increased rainfall and strong winds.
What will the weather be like in Delhi-NCR today?
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Delhi and its surrounding areas today. Rain accompanied by thunder and lightning may occur during the day. Temperatures are likely to drop by 2 to 4 degrees, making the weather cool and pleasant.
The minimum temperature is expected to range between 16 and 18 degrees. Strong winds will provide relief from the heat, and air quality is also likely to improve. The weather will remain cool for the next few days.
Know the Situation in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand
In Uttar Pradesh, several places may witness strong winds accompanied by rain and thunderstorms. Some areas may also experience hailstorms. There is a likelihood of heavier rainfall between April 7 and 9, particularly in the eastern parts of the state.
Rain and snowfall are likely in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand. A warning for hailstorms accompanied by strong winds has also been issued. The lower-lying areas are expected to experience rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Travelers heading to the mountains have been advised to exercise caution, as road connectivity may be disrupted due to the snowfall.
Weather Update for Bihar and Jharkhand
In Bihar, strong winds—gusting at speeds of 40 to 60 km per hour—are expected today, accompanied by rain. There is also a possibility of hailstorms in certain locations.
Jharkhand is also expected to witness rain and strong winds on April 7 and 8. Conditions conducive to thunderstorms and squalls may develop in the region. Farmers have been advised to remain vigilant regarding their crops.
The spell of rain is likely to continue across the northeastern states for the next five days. Heavy rainfall is forecast for various days in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and other states in the region. Hailstorms may also occur in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and eastern Madhya Pradesh.
Light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in Gujarat. States across South India—such as Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka—are also expected to experience light to moderate rainfall and strong winds. Isolated instances of heavy rainfall may occur in Kerala and coastal regions.
According to the IMD, a new Western Disturbance will begin affecting Northwest India starting April 11. Consequently, parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Haryana may once again witness rain and snowfall.
The Meteorological Department has urged the public to regularly check for weather updates and to refrain from ignoring any warnings. Farmers, travelers, and the general public are advised to exercise particular caution, as weather conditions in several areas could change abruptly.
