Heavy rains are expected in southern Indian states on Thursday. Meanwhile, temperatures in northern India will drop over the next 48 hours, increasing the cold.
New Delhi: A cyclone is likely to form over the southern Bay of Bengal. The weather department said it is likely to move west-northwestward and intensify into a depression over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, off the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and southern Andhra Pradesh by this afternoon. This could bring heavy rainfall to Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, and Telangana.
Red alert for heavy rain in Tamil Nadu
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain in Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvallur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram districts, while the capital Chennai has been placed on an orange alert. Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam districts, and the Karaikal region are expected to experience heavy rain today. Earlier, heavy rains lashed the state on Wednesday, closing schools and colleges in Chennai.

Heavy rain is expected in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, and Mahe from October 23rd to 28th. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected in these areas over the next five days. Meanwhile, lightning is likely in Odisha from the 23rd to the 26th, and in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh over the next five days. Rain is also possible during this time.
Weather in Rajasthan
Meanwhile, the impact of a Western Disturbance has once again altered the state’s weather. Cloud movement and firecracker smoke in Jaipur and other districts caused temperatures to rise by up to two degrees. The effects of this Western Disturbance are also expected on Thursday and Friday. Between October 25th and 28th, cloudy skies and scattered rain are expected in parts of Kota and Udaipur divisions in southeastern Rajasthan. The weather is expected to remain largely dry in most other parts.
Cold will intensify in these parts of the country
A drop in temperatures in North India over the next 48 hours will bring a chilly feeling. According to the Meteorological Department, minimum temperatures will drop by at least 2-4 degrees Celsius in most parts of northwest India over the next 2-3 days.
Delhi Weather
On Wednesday, the maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 32.1 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal, while the night temperature was 21.8 degrees Celsius, three degrees above average. Delhi will experience partly cloudy skies today, with temperatures hovering around 32 degrees Celsius.
Snowfall in Himachal
Fresh snowfall occurred in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul and Spiti district and higher reaches of Manali, causing a drop in minimum temperatures. The snowfall has brought cheer to tourism stakeholders in Manali and Lahaul-Spiti, as they expect an increase in tourist arrivals. The Shimla weather office reported light rain in some parts of the state.
