IMD Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding the impact of an active Western Disturbance over Northwest India on April 2. Consequently, daytime temperatures in these regions are likely to remain around or below normal levels until April 6.
The IMD has forecast that, due to prevailing weather conditions, light to moderate rainfall will occur across Northwest India until April 5, with the intensity of precipitation expected to peak over the next two days.
Prospects of Rain and Strong Winds in These Areas
The Meteorological Department stated, “Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh are likely to experience scattered to widespread light to moderate rain/snowfall—accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds (gusting up to 60 km/h with speeds of 40–50 km/h)—on April 3, 4, and 7. Similar conditions are expected in Uttarakhand from April 3 to 5.” The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in Jammu & Kashmir on April 3.
In its latest bulletin, the IMD stated, “The central parts of the country are likely to witness rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning until April 6; additionally, there is a possibility of hailstorms at isolated places until April 3, 2026.”
According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall may occur at isolated places over the coming days. This is also likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and strong winds.
Similar weather conditions are likely to persist across Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi for the next two days. Meanwhile, Western Uttar Pradesh will experience the impact of this weather system from April 3 to 5, while Eastern Uttar Pradesh may witness rainfall on April 4 and 5. Additionally, weather conditions in Eastern Rajasthan are expected to remain adverse for the next two days, followed by a renewed possibility of rain and strong winds between April 6 and 7.
According to the Meteorological Department, Western Rajasthan may experience adverse weather conditions until April 4, and again on April 6 and 7. There is a possibility of rain in West Bengal and Sikkim on April 5; in Bihar on April 5 and 6; in Jharkhand on April 4 and 5; and in Odisha until April 5.
These weather conditions are expected to persist across Central India until April 6. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka will experience the impact of this weather system over the next four days. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry may witness rain and adverse weather conditions for the next three days.
Furthermore, there is a possibility of rain in Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Gujarat until April 4, while a risk of lightning strikes has been forecast for Coastal Maharashtra on April 2.
Weather Forecast for Northeastern States
Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds is likely across the northeastern states until April 5. The IMD has forecast rain in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on April 2, and lightning strikes in Arunachal Pradesh on April 4 and 5.
Today’s Weather in Delhi
The IMD has forecast “partly cloudy skies” for Delhi on April 2, with maximum and minimum temperatures remaining within the normal range. According to the IMD, the maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are expected to hover between 35°C and 37°C, and 18°C and 20°C, respectively. Furthermore, in view of the possibility of heavy rainfall, the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for April 4. On Wednesday, the average rainfall recorded in Delhi was 5.2 mm.
